Buy the TRENDnet and enjoy it. This successfully replaced an old USB webcam and allowed me go green by turning off a PC that interfaced the old USB webcam. It took me a couple evenings to get the TRENDnet to work properly but it was a good challenge since the outcome is fantastic.I installed zoneminder on ubuntu 9.04 on VMWARE ESXi4 on a Quad Dell 520 Desktop Inspiron. No suprises and the webcam works great. The ESXi4 install is being used to clean up my office of numerous power consuming computers.
I have a ticket open with TRENDnet, however its one of those things that affect several systems, type of routers, ISP provider etc etc. Overall the camera work well within my home network, just cant see it remotely. Not TRENDNet fault, but it would not hurt to have included information on how to view the camera over the internet.
I have tried for about a month. The documentation is poor. I have not been able to view the camera(cameras, I bought two) remotely yet, which is why I purchased the cameras.
I am learning about port forwarding on routers and DNS stuff now, all I want is a nice user friendly GUI interface point and click. It is an educational product unless you are a network administrator. The camera set up was kinda of easy, the software is a pain to work with and is very, very slow.
It is worth saying again the software is a pain to work with.
I installed X10 power models on each camera so that now I can remotely power the cameras on/off as needed remotely. Because I was remote I was unable to do so. This meant needing to reboot the camera manually.
I bought these to monitor a second home from my first. The camera's settings let me easily set them up for indoor/outdoor monitoring etc. The TRENDnet wireless Internet Camera (TV-IP110W) exceeded my expectations so much I now have a total of 5 of them.
Unfortunately, I did have a problem that when power is lost, the camera gives up trying to find the wireless network, prior to my wireless becoming available. I've had the cameras installed for 6 months now and they have performed beautifully. The setup was very simple and flawless.
I admit I'm a geek so the typical non-geek might have a problem with the over-simplified documentation.
The UPnP ability is a nice feature in your home network. I think someone else here has pointed out it has Linux at its heart which is nice. For simple casual use this is a great buy and an easy way to keep an eye on things around the house from work.
Image quality is better than I would have expected at this price. But this isn't sold as a night cam. I bought this on sale and I'm so happy with it I have ordered another off sale.
I would also have liked access to a couple of extra settings on the network set up but the average user would not care about this so it isn't perfect but not far off. For the price I haven't seen a better camera. To get better you'll have to spend much more.
I don't give it 5 stars because of it low light quality.
IF YOU ARE INTERESTING TO GET A 24 HR CAMERA THIS IS THE WRONG ON, YOU NEED TO BUY THE DAY AND NIGHT.THE PICTURE I HAVE IN MY iPHONE IS PERFECT BUT STILL YOU WILL HAVE A 5 SECONDS DELAY UNFORTUNATELY IS NOT A 100% REAL TIME, BUT IN MY COMPUTER IT IS A 100% REAL TIME.AFTER ALL WAS A GREAT DEAL AND IT WORKS GREAT I have 2 Wireless cameras, they work perfect, in (my particular case) I have to many problems to make it work remotely, because my router ,great factory soport , I can see the cameras with my IPHONE, IN CASE YOU CAN'T MAKE IT WORK DON'T GUIVE UP, JUST CALL SOMEBODY ELSE.
